THE CAPTIONATOR
A TOOL TO CONVERT TEXT TO .SRT SUBTITLE FORMAT WITH TIMINGS
I’ve built a patch in Isadora that generates srt subtitle files with timings from a text version of the script, so you don’t have to faff about with that timeline in YouTube.
Use scenario: you have a recorded version of a play, and a script to go with - but YouTube’s auto detect timings feature doesn’t work very well, so you’re having to manually drag every single line into its correct place for an hour long video and it’s taking hours.
With this patch, you simply play the video and cue each caption as if you’re operating the show live, and it remembers the timings for each caption and records them straight to an srt file which you can tweak in a video editing application, or upload to YouTube etc.
To use this, you will need to install the latest version of Isadora from TROIKATRONIX, and you will need to convert your script to plaintext (.txt).
Please note, I built this mainly for my own purposes so it hasn’t been widely tested - so you may encounter some bugs. Please shoot an email to hello@timothykelly.co.uk with any bug reports or feedback.
This patch is distributed free of charge, but please consider donating if you can: https://paypal.Me/captionator

PERFECT APP FOR RACHEL
AN iOS APP WITH A LARGE PICTURE BUTTON TO SEND SIMPLE GO/STOP CUES TO QLAB
I developed Perfect App For Rachel as part of Zoo Co’s ‘Perfect Show For Rachel’ project.
The aim of the project was to enable Rachel - who has a learning disability - to operate the technical elements of the show. Each distinct cue triggers a game the cast play, and Rachel could use this app to control the actors on stage.
As part of Rachel’s access requirements, we needed the app to be able to have a button that displays a custom image for Rachel to recognise its function, and be large, with double-tap protection, and custom responsitivity settings to match her motor function.
This is still a prototype, as the project remains in development. In future versions, I aim to get rid of the need for an app, and instead replace it with a physical custom CNC-cut midi controller.
