PIXEL MAPPING & VIDEO SYSTEMS DESIGN

GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL, UK, JUNE 2022

LIGHTING DESIGN BY BAILES + LIGHT

For Greenpeace’s field at Glastonbury Festival 2022, I worked as part of the Lighting team to realize the ‘Rave Tree’, pixel mapping and programming 1250 individually controlled LEDs in 3D space. Additionally, I designed a bespoke control system for content for the projection and video wall on the sun stage to serve content, and that automatically brought up act information.

HAMPSTEAD THEATRE, MAY 2022

Love has no limits for the Diggs siblings: there’s nothing that 17-year-old Jude won’t do to keep her younger brother Acton safe. Growing up in the turbulence of 1970s America, Jude works nights and weekends to pay the bills, just so that they can stay together and with their mother. But when Acton’s troublesome pals form a club in their basement, a foolish game threatens to upend Jude's plans, and derail their lives forever. How far will Jude go to protect her brother? And who will pay the eventual price of her doing so?

As trust and loyalty are put on the line, hindsight proves devastating in Naomi Wallace’s absorbing, coming-of-age drama The Breach, directed by Sarah Frankcom.

MORE INFO ON SAVVY

THE BOY WHO WENT FORTH TO LEARN WHAT SHIVERING WAS

Written & directed by Sheree Vickers

Devised & performed by the SAVVY Adult Company.

How can you have justice in a world where facts are fluid and people won’t even accept the basic premise?

This grotesquely unique piece explores the absurdities of the Criminal Justice system in a world where the rules don’t seem to matter or are constantly changing. Where facts play no part in reality and where the most logical and straightforward explanations are twisted into illogical complications.

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF GRIMMLY COUNTY

Written by John Handscombe

Directed by Sheree Vickers

Devised & performed by the Crisis Averted Company.

“I never leave the house without my face made up, my magic mirror, and a handful of apples for anyone who gets in my way.”

Welcome to Grimm County. It’s the land of the rich & the wicked, where magic and evil plots are the order of the day. It’s all about being part of the IN crowd and it’s shaped by the queens who live there. There are friendships to make and faces to break, and you need to keep your wits about you to succeed.

THE SIX

Written & directed by Lewis Penfold

Devised & performed by the Take-2 drama group.

How do you take on the powers of a King? How do you right wrongs and fight injustice?

You assemble a team of eccentric folk with extraordinary powers and strike back - that’s how! In this exciting Grimms tale of betrayal, revenge and magic, we discover that by having good friends around you – good friends with some very impressive powers – you can truly get on in the world.

RED

Written & directed by Alice Rayman

Devised & performed by the Action Replay drama group.

If you go into the woods today, you won’t believe your eyes ... or your ears ... or your teeth!

Based on the traditional tale of Little Red Cap with a few twists and turns along the path to Grandma’s house.

SWEET PORRIDGE

Written & directed by Alice Rayman

Devised & performed by the YounGrrr Company.

Who’s stirring the pot in the castle kitchens today?

Based on the Grimms story Sweet Porridge, the SAVVY YounGrrr Company bring you a short but sweet comedy piece which may boil over into something messy!

THE TURNIP

Written & directed by Alice Rayman

Devised & performed by the 3-D drama group.

What’s the root of all evil? Wealth? Power? Turnips?

Come and explore how the grotesque greed of the few impacts the lives of the many.

THE LITTLE BROTHER AND THE LITTLE SISTER

Written & directed by Sheree Vickers

Devised & performed by the Young Company.

The Little Brother & The Little Sister leave their home and disappear into the wild wood...

A modern interpretation of this traditional tale that weaves ensemble storytelling, movement and shadow puppetry to explore identity and independence and asks what happens when your life is not of your choosing.

Five Guys Named Moe
is an explosion of entertainment using the great music of Louis Jordan.

A Musical by Clarke Peters

Directed and Choreographed by Mykal Rand.

Presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International and Cameron Makintosh

Nomax is our Hero – he’s broke, his girlfriend’s left him, and he’s listening to the radio at five in the morning. Out of the radio step Big Moe, Little Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe and Four Eyed Moe.

Singing and dancing to Jordan’s jazz-laced rhythm and blues score, the Moes encourage Nomax to turn his life around, get his girl back, and encourage all of us to ‘let the good times roll’.

Classic Louis Jordan numbers include Saturday Night Fish Fry; Safe Sane and Single; and Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby.

JERMYN STREET THEATRE, AUGUST 2021

“I hear birds but they’re a long way off. They don’t like the ash in the air round here.”

Elodie and Otto are teenagers in love. Hidden in their farmhouse-loft, they talk, tease and touch. Elodie has found a small egg and brought it home and Otto wants to start a war – with pillows. Outside, the picture is different: it is Chartres, 1944 and a real war is raging. Elodie lives under German occupation while Otto, a soldier, pledges faith to the Fuhrer. Can a beautiful future emerge from this single night of artillery raids?

EDUCATION EDUCATION KARAOKE

EDUCATION EDUCATION KARAOKE

CO-CREATOR (DESIGN + TECHNOLOGY)

STARTING BLOCKS SHOWCASE, CAMDEN PEOPLE’S THEATRE, JULY 2021

A choose-your-own adventure, with a different performer every night. With lines fed to them via a karaoke machine, the performer makes their way through the years using a dance mat to select stories, and occasionally to have a bit of a boogie.

Education, Education, Karaoke is the story of the last 20 years of the British education system and the pop bangers that came to define it. From Tony Blair to Cher Lloyd, we take a romp through how one speech in 1997 lead to the British education system becoming one of the most unequal in the world, and how karaoke might be the answer to level the playing field. A combination of verbatim interviews and karaoke, we track the way working-class kids were told to aspire to something the establishment never wanted them to have.

FAIRFIELD HALLS, CROYDON, JULY 2021

WELCOME TO GIANT INC.

A large corporation is polluting the skies above with their industrialised nation, while the agricultural land below is suffering under the strain.  Our Panto Dame is figuring out how to use the new-fangled machines that Jack keeps inventing and Milky White is looking to become an influencer on MooTube.

Combining traditional pantomime with a steampunk twist, audiences are introduced to Jack, a young progressive torn between two worlds - the traditional farming community he lives in with Dame Trott, his mother, and the industrial world above he has heard so much about - with its amazing contraptions, impossible inventions and giant wealth!

In true SAVVY-style, this original pantomime involves an inclusive community cast from across our diverse membership, including young people, adults with a learning disability, people with experience of homelessness and everyone in-between.

KINGS HEAD THEATRE (ONLINE), MAY 2021

MINERVA PRODUCTIONS

Following critically-acclaimed runs at the Theatre Upstairs in Dublin and VAULT FestivalMinerva Productions are proud to present Sacrament as part of the King’s Head Theatre’s digital on demand season, Plays On Film.

In a small University town in the UK in the early 2010s, before Repeal the 8th, Queer Eye and same-sex marriage, Avicii is playing on full volume, vodka cranberry is flowing and a young Irish Catholic woman starts to question her sexuality.

The Church, the Bible and her Auntie Deidre might all agree that ‘man and woman were made for each other,’ but her openly lesbian mate Sophie sets her pulse racing, throwing her relationship with faith, family and the future into jeopardy.

Filmed in high definition by the award-winning Shoot Media, this powerful, funny and thought provoking monologue asks whether it’s possible to reconcile a religious upbringing with finding sexual empowerment as a young woman in the 21st century.

STREATHAM SPACE PROJECT, OCT 2020

The Future Project brings together voices of South London in a large scale sound installation imagining our shared future. Asking the local neighbourhood to respond to the question “What are your hopes for the future?”

How do you imagine the future? As a better, happier place? Jetpack and holograms? Or something altogether different? The Future Project asks us to look beyond 2020 and consider our place in the world and how we might come together as a neighbourhood to look forward.

Created by sound artist Kieran Lucas The Future Project will combine audio & visual technologies to generate a collage of voices and text in a constantly shifting, atmospheric environment which audiences can experience in a socially distant installation that takes over the whole of Streatham Space Project’s main auditorium.

“Visually, My Darling Christopher looks fantastic.  It’s well shot and edited together perfectly, all the more amazing that the entire thing was done during lockdown, but still manages to employ suitable locations and costumes.  Hot Coals Theatre create work that is visually accessible to hearing and D/deaf audiences, and again they succeed on this front; the spoken English is captioned, and BSL is integrated to the performance.”

“The captioned performance, using blocky video game animation was a really nice and relatable touch. It was hard not to just look at the screen as it was such an interesting bit of video design that served a key purpose. Callie Nestleroth’s direction of this monologue is engaging; incorporating video design and performance seamlessly in a show that accommodates its audiences whatever their needs.

Shanine Salmon, View From The Cheap Seat

“This gaming connection is gorgeously brought to life by the screen on stage, which not only brings us Kelly’s words in real time but also the characters, rendered perfectly, and with changing backdrops (an affordance not otherwise possible in this black box studio), in 90s dot matrix-game style.”

Abi Davies, Spy in the Stalls

“The combination of skilled acting, writing and direction helps to make her a full person in a way that autistic people often aren’t allowed to be in pop culture. Where else do you get to see a play which places an autistic woman at the centre, who is also given real agency over her own story? As part of these considerations, the play also has stylised captions for every performance, which is clearly useful for not only D/deaf people but also people with the audio processing issues that are often associated with autism.”

Oluwatayo Adewole, Voice Mag
